Chinese antique low tables
Our ever-changing selection of original Chinese antiques includes a range of low tables, perfect for use as coffee or side tables in contemporary interiors. As charming as they are practical, our antique Chinese tables are sourced by us directly from China, where each piece is carefully selected by us for its unique beauty and rich patina.
In Chinese homes of the past, low tables would have been traditionally placed on the ‘kang’ which is a platform made from brick, stone or earth. The kang was used as a place to recline on during the day and would have been heated from below to provide warmth during the winter months. Low tables had an important place on the kang as they would have been used to serve food or to display precious objects. Many antique low tables have upturned ends which suggests that they could have been used as an alternative altar surface on which to place offerings to ancestors. In addition, many also feature small shallow drawers to provide useful storage.
Thanks to their low height, antique low tables are ideal for use as coffee tables, side tables or even as small TV stands. Some have delicate carvings, whilst others are much simpler in design, making them perfect for inclusion in contemporary living spaces.

Local elm wood, also known as Northern Elm, is the material of choice for most of our Classical furniture. Although elm wood is technically a hardwood according to Western definitions, in China it is classed as a softwood as it is sufficiently porous to retain coloured lacquer.
Our Chinese classical furniture collection includes a selection of stylish coffee tables available in a wide range of sizes, wood finishes and colours. From rustic designs in light elm, through to imposing pieces made from walnut, our selection includes something to suit all interiors.
