Textiles have long played an important role in Chinese interiors and would have been used to add comfort and aid relaxation. Traditional Chinese cushion designs ranged from ornate embroidered silks, carefully preserved for largely decorative purposes, through to practical, comfy designs made from simple woven cottons.
Many of our cushions are handmade in China using traditional embroidery and weaving techniques, including cushions made by the Miao people - one of China’s largest ethnic minorities - and which are hand-stitched, through to luxurious cushions made from beaded silk.
When choosing cushions or cushion covers to add the perfect finishing touch to a room, don’t be afraid to experiment with different combinations of colour, texture and pattern! We think cushions in contrasting designs look great when arranged together and to create a more cohesive feel, why not choose a coordinating colour scheme, such as blue and white, or a pattern theme?
