Classic Blue - Style your home with the Pantone Colour of the Year
Colour specialist Pantone recently unveiled it's colour of the year for 2020 as 'Classic Blue' - a shade that is thought to instill calm and confidence. According to Pantone, it also represents the darker skies as we move from day to night and a feeling of anticipation as we move into an uncertain new decade.
If you are looking to bring the colour of 2020 into your interior scheme, then using accent ornaments, or porcelain lamps is an easy way to do so, or go bigger with a stand out piece of furniture in blue lacquer.
Along with other colours, our calligraphy brushes are available in a classic blue and are a wonderful way to bring a splash of vivid colour into a space, either individually or grouped together with other brushes in bone and jade. Combine with lamps in a similar shade, such as the Blue Fairy Vine Lamp, or ceramic vases and ginger jars.
Vibrant shades of blue can work well with lighter hues such as grey, beige and cream to create chic colour combinations, allowing the blue furniture and accessories to stand out as statement pieces in a living room or hallway. The elegant Blue Lacquer Altar Cabinet shown above would look stunning in a hallway, living or dining room. A reproduction of a classic design, with tapered sides and everted flanges at the end of an extended top surface, it provides oriental style as well as plenty of storage.
Blue is a natural colour of both the sky and the sea, with shades that are immediately calming and welcoming with the tones that are said to evoke clarity, pureness, peace and harmony.
Our Beijing Blue Collection with dusty vintage shades of blue is perfect in a bedroom if you’re wanting to create a stylish and tranquil space. Beautifully handcrafted from reclaimed pine wood, each is finished with distressed black lacquer frames and contrasting powder blue doors.
For a fresh look in your kitchen / dining room, a coastal palette of gentle blues, off-whites and greys is a particularly versatile choice. Shades of pale blues, greys and darker inky shades are proving to be a big hit and mean that you can have fun with your kitchen colour design.
Whatever you choose for your own home, you can expect to see a lot of blue this year, from homewares to fashion and even cocktails! Let's hope it helps usher in a peaceful, calm and harmonious year.
