Beautiful Autumnal Colours

Autumn is here - the season that marks the transition from summer to winter, harvest time, turning leaves, cooling temperatures and darkening nights. One of the most stunning signs of Autumn is the turning of the leaves. The shorter days are a sign to trees to prepare for winter, with the colour of leaves changing from green to the vibrant ambers, reds and yellows that we see at this time of year. We thought we’d share a few items from our vast collection of furniture and accessories that complement the rich and beautiful autumnal colour palette.

This beautiful orange painted cabinet (above left), part of our China Seasons collection, showcases the rich colours of autumn, with a shiny reddish orange lacquer and cream background depicting hand-painted figures in ancient dress. This reproduction piece is based on the furniture traditionally produced in Gansu province, western China.

Giving a soft, warm light from three bulbs, the unusual 'S' shape floor lamp in orange silk is a great way to bring an autumnal glow to your living space. One of dozens of floor and table lamps available in our lighting collection.

The delightful, elegant open antique elm bookshelf shown above is from the Shanxi region, dating from the beginning of the 20th century, and would most likely have been used by one of the scholarly classes to hold books and papers. The rich brown tones and smooth finish make it a lovely piece for displaying books or ornaments in any room.

Did you know tha the first recorded game of conkers using horse chestnuts was on the Isle of Wight in 1848? A game that brings back childhood memories to so many of us. The red lacquer sideboard from Gansu (above right) is finished in a deep red, resembling the colour of conkers and complimented with further autumnal shades in green and cream. The beautiful, deep colours would make it a fabulous statement piece in any home.
