The worn, old gold paintings and deep, rich red lacquer of this cabinet would add a real warmth and vibrancy to any setting. The cabinet is from Shanxi province and is typical of the beautifully crafted painted furniture that the region is famous for in China. The gold decoration is old, though possibly retouched over the years, and shows various fine possessions - bronzes, books and vases - designed to show off the importance and status of the owner. The old red lacquer has a crackled, worn look that is full of character, though resealed and refreshed with a new shiny varnish. With a single removable shelf inside and a removable board over the bottom section, the cabinet would be perfect for storage in a living room or bedroom, or would make a great drinks cabinet.
